Frequently Asked Questions

At what age do I vaccinate my puppy or kitten?

Puppies and kittens should get their first vaccination around seven weeks of age. They need a series of vaccinations at three week intervals. We will provide you with a booklet containing a detailed schedule of your new pet's vaccinations.

What vaccinations are recommended for my dog or cat?

We recommend the following vaccinations for dogs:

  • 8-in-1 vaccine (contains distemper, parvo, parainfluenza, adeno and a 4-way leptospirosis)
  • Rabies
  • Bordetella

We also recommend an annual  wellness examination, fecal examination and heartworm test for dogs.

We recommend the following vaccinations for cats:

  • FVRCP (rhinotracheitis, calici and panleukopenia)
  • Rabies
  • Feline leukemia- if your cat goes outside

We also recommend an annual wellness and fecal examination for your cat.

Why should I spay or neuter my pet?

Please read our seasonal topic on pet overpopulation!

How long is my dog or cat in heat?

Dogs have a three week heat cycle. During the first week, a straw colored discharge is noticed. A blood discharge is noticed during the second week.  Finally, during the third week, a straw colored discharge is noticed again.

Cats remain in heat until spayed or bred.

How long will my dog or cat be pregnant?

Pregnancy in the dog and cat usually lasts between 63 and 65 days. Two hours of hard labor warrants visiting a veterinarian!

Do you provide boarding services?

We do provide boarding services. We have cozy, indoor runs with cots to lay on for our large dogs. We have roomy cages for small dogs. The dogs are walked outside twice daily on our large grassy area.

For cats, we have roomy cages in a quiet area of the hospital. We require that all pets be current on vaccinations and be free of fleas and ticks. Call to schedule your boarding today!

Do you have a payment program?

Payment is required at the times of services. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

Do I need an appointment? Do you accept walk-ins?

We prefer that you make an appointment because our surgeries and other procedures are performed based on our appointment schedule. Walk-ins are worked in if time is available, and we do our best to accommodate you. However, we cannot guarantee that your pet can be seen without a scheduled appointment.

Do you allow drop off's at your clinic?

Is it too difficult to get away from work during the day? We allow drop-off appointments for established clients. We require that patients being dropped off be current on vaccinations and free of fleas and ticks. Please contact us for a drop-off appointment if it is more convenient for you.

I have an emergency, where should I take my pet?

You can bring your emergency to see us during regular office hours.  If emergency services are needed outside of our normal business hours, please refer to the following emergency animal hospitals:

Do you have grooming services?

We do not have a groomer, but we can provide bathing services. Your pet will receive a bath, nail trim, and anal gland expression.
